A Source of Inspiration For Your Remote Backdrop
With COVID-19 forcing journalists, pundits, meteorologists, celebrities, sports figures, and other commentators into their homes, offices, kitchens, living rooms, basements, bedrooms, or one-room apartments have been conscripted to serve as virtual backdrops for makeshift studios.
As much as we are listening to the words uttered by those public figures during these live streaming media interviews, our eyes are taking in the background. From elegant and fancy, to simple and spare, these backdrops have become a story in and of themselves.
A little more than two weeks ago, a DC-based couple launched the Twitter feed @ratemyskyperoom to give the world a look at the good, bad, and ugly when it comes to backdrops. The duo rates backdrops on a scale of 0 to 10, offering critiques on lighting, bookcase design, perspective, and small and large details.
Those with greater means (and possibly designer assistance) often had more HGTV-worthy backdrops. But even probable DIY-ers gained high marks for well-done backgrounds.
We have culled 20 examples that reflect a diversity of spaces and approaches. If you are looking for inspiration and guidance – and perhaps some confidence that all those prying eyes won’t be rolling – it’s worth taking a look at their full Twitter feed.
