A Few Small Improvements On The Mr. Media Training Blog
If you’ve ever checked out the two columns on the right side of this blog, you know that they haven’t changed much over time. I’ve made some changes in an effort to keep that content much more dynamic from now on.
First, I’ve killed the “All Time Most Popular Posts” feature. The truth is, those stories don’t change much over time. And I’ve heard from a couple of you that you’re tired of seeing the picture of Anthony Weiner’s junk underwear every time you visit the site (that story was one of the blog’s most popular posts).
In its place, I’ve added “This Month’s Most Popular Posts.” That content will change much more frequently, which will hopefully give you more of a reason to check out what other readers have been clicking on over the past 30 days.
Beneath that, you’ll see six sections:
Most Recent Posts: This section contains links to the blog’s eight most recent articles.
Featured Posts (new): This section contains a few of my favorite posts, and will be updated monthly.
Media Training Resources: This section contains a few of the most important media training tips, and will be updated monthly.
Public Speaking Resources (new): This new section contains a few of the most important public speaking tips, and will be updated monthly.
Archives and Categories: These two sections now appear only as dropdown menus in an attempt to clean up the site.
As always, I’d love to hear your feedback. Please leave a comment if you have any thoughts after reviewing the new columns. Thank you for reading!
These are excellent improvements. I find the change to monthly top posts most helpful, and also like the media and public speaking resouces links. Thanks!
Emily,
Excellent feedback – thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t think of the monthly posts option sooner. Like a couple of readers, I was also sick of that Anthony Weiner photo!
Thanks for reading,
Brad
Brad, I’m curious about the column showing images and titles of the month’s most popular posts. What plugin/s do you use for that, especially to show the most popular?
David,
I believe the most popular posts is a built in WordPress widget. You can opt to include images in a checkbox, and just have to size them to fit the space you have available.
Thanks!
Brad
